Therapy Style & Education
Approach:
I use Mindful Stress Reduction, Mindful Self Compassion, Attachment and Relationship Repair and somatic work on high activation from early and adult trauma.
I provide parent education in child and adult child development and strength based positive discipline, emotion regulation and coping with school, In professional consultation - I provide 24 years of clinical experience in child and family therapy and somatic psychotherapy for resolution of developmental and shock trauma. And, I have training and experience working with addiction.
Therapy Style:
I invite a collaborative approach to identify your counseling goals and how you want to achieve them. I offer strength based positive approaches working at two levels. I can help you stop and reframe unhelpful thoughts, use personal strengths to develop strategies to cope and sustain self appreciation and life balance. And, I can help you understand the physiology of your brain-body nervous system and use your natural capacities to increase tolerance for distress and restore balance after trauma.
In parent counseling, I help you provide effective discipline, nurturing, monitoring and management of your child’s development and emotional stabilization.

Why did you become a mental health professional?
Achieving in the face of my own life difficulties, I learned the hard work of overcoming adversity. The crises and victories of the life journey inspire me to hold out a hand to others.
What are your interests outside of work?
I am a published writer and have a column in the News-Miners' monthly insert on health and wellness, AlaskaPulse. I walk the trails at Creamers. I bicycle along the river and into the woods to hidden lakes. I read and garden. I join charity 5ks. ln the dark and cold of winter, I go to the gym and community events. I dance in the dining room and sing out loud in the kitchen. I spend as much time as I can with family and friends.
